2026 is 30 Year Anniversary!
jClamp for Windows (v. 42.4.0) is a user-friendly whole-cell voltage clamp data acquisition program which features real time monitoring of cell and voltage clamp characteristics. At all times the patch clamper can determine cell status. Data collection is initiated through a rapid parameter directory (RPD) which maintains a list of 18 parameter filenames or script filenames. Either a key press or mouse click begins the predefined voltage or current delivery protocols. Scripts are text files which allow groups of parameter files to be called and run. Most tasks are automated. Some data analysis is available. In addition, automation links with MATLAB, Excel, SigmaPlot and Origin are available.

New Feature Update

>    -3/10/26 Version 42.4.0
>    Potential bug fixes and enhancements. Support for plotting Re, Im and Abs complex Cm for 2-sine data in Analysis Window. Fixed issues of plotting in IV and fits.
>    -1/27/26 Version 42.3.0
>    Potential bug fixes. Export data file fixes. Dynamic clamp update.
>    -1/17/26 Version 42.2.0
>    Fit form enhancements. IV plotting fixes. jClamp instance usage updated. Now additional instances of jClamp cannot be run with the same Inifile, except for math_model.ini or jclamp32.ini. If there is a conflict then math_model.ini will be used. Message box gives information when several instances are used. Also, indications of jClamp start and graceful exit are written in jClamp directory as text files without file extensions. They can be read with text editor.
>    -1/11/26 Version 42.1.0
>    Enhancements and potential bug fixes. Dynamic Clamp in Windows with the NI PCIe-6374 board. Timing is via QPC with pt by pt in/out. Jitter (clock +/- SD) is saved for inspection. Usually, SD is about 10% for a 10us clock. Many other features. Current clamp mode is dynamic, while voltage clamp is model evaluation only. A few dynamic HH models are included. Above see Ik in CC window and in Analysis mode a voltage-dependent capacitance inserted into a linear electrical model using an Axon 200B amplifier. Contact me if you want more information.
>    -9/24/25 Version 40.1.0
>    Enhancements and potential bug fixes. Print to PDF (Adobe and Microsoft) updated to not only print all data plots in a directory, but to print all protocol forms to view all your command protocols. Optimal printing of 8 data plots or protocols per page. Fixed automatic fitting of traces during batch plotting from Data Load window. Ability to save to text file fit results during batch plotting.
>    -9/7/25 Version 40.9.0
>    Fixed timed evaluation license issue. Math model enabled/disabled only in ini file (not anymore in CC pop-up window), ensuring full ini file implementation of model settings. Any hardware designed (e.g., NI usbx board) ini file can be used to analyze collected data with/without hardware present if model is enabled in in file. Load jClamp with model enabled ini can be run as a new instance of jClamp even during a jClamp instance with enabled hardware. Math model window is shown at startup if model is selected in ini file. Re-initialization issues fixed within jClamp. Upon ini file load, if hardware is absent or cannot be initialized, then the math model jClamp32.ini file is loaded. To use hardware, make sure that manufacturer designed software associated with the hardware works, e.g., that Axoscope works with the Axon 1550B digitizer. Then retry the hardware enabled ini file.
>    -9/3/25 Version 40.8.0
>    Fixed bug in abf file export..
>    -9/1/25 Version 40.7.0
>    Touch ups. Bug fixes. Adobe PDF printing enahancement. Auto directory and filename or user choice. Use Adobe Printer. MS Print to PDF is bad and no options. Result Window remains user chosen size before/after switch to Analysis mode. Clipboard copy for all plots. Enhanced Matlab data export. Fixed occasional crash when repeatedly switching between time and frequency domain in CC.
>    -8/12/25 Version 40.6.0
>    Touch ups. Bug fixes.
>    -8/1/25 Version 40.5.0
>    Touch ups. Bug fixes. Axon fix for DigiData 1550B FPGA file now. No more spurious voltage pulses that could have injured recorded cells. Axon 1550 and 1550A may still have bug. Episode averaging fix.
>    -6/14/25 Version 40.4.0
>    Cumulative changes since version 39.0.0. Ability to additionally save a polynominal fitted calibration file whose use could reduce effects of noise in calibration. Touch ups.
>    jClamp will now notify you if the disk space on the data drive is less than 1 GB at startup or after a data collection is made. To change the default size, edit in inifile under Script tab. IniEditor and JcLog forms can be set to modal/topmost with push-pin button. Touch ups.
>    Fixed bug to allow current monitoring in CC when CC is off and telegraphs are not enabled. Do a new system calibration. Touch ups.
>    Fixed minimize/maximize jClamp window, calibration display. Touch ups.
>    Fixed plot comparison in Result window. Fixed pauses during averaging of large number of collections. Touch ups.
>    Plotting bug fixs. New command protocol to increment resolution of 2 sine cm protocol across 5 episodes; epFinc select in command window.
>    Re-initialization bug fix. Audio Clip monitor fix.
>    Audio Clip enhancement. Look32x! fixes. Axon 1550B jClamp CC modification to minimize driver problems. The board still produces spurious voltage pulses, however. Molecular Devices is finally investigating.
>    Touch ups. Bug fixes. Fixed sometimes stalled Look32x video collection from parameter files. More PSD enhancements.
>    Touch ups. Bug fixes. Single sine PSD Cm measure window and export enhancements. Data directory opened on right click free space info panel.

I suggest a fast computer (>1GHz), at least 512 Meg memory, and fast video! jClamp is a large program. It works best in Win NT, 2000, XP, Vista or Win7/8 - for those boards which can work in these environments. Cm tracking with the Axon 1200 board has problems in Win NT if run from Cell Censor but not within command protocols.
